Claris: The Solution to your Steamer Problems

Protecting a commercial steamer from limescale and other damaging entities caused by the water has become easier with the introduction of the Claris system.  The Claris system utilizes five stage softening and filtering to allow the user to dial in the perfect amount of mineral for their steamer.  Boilerless and combi steamer ovens have to retain enough mineral content for probes to accurately detect the water levels.  While necessary to keep minerals, too much content will cause scaling on heating rods and the hot plates.  So having the ability to choose the amount of wanted mineral in your water is a great feature. The Claris system protects your steamer with a five-stage process.

Five-Stage Filtration Process Pre-filtration – Media at the entrance to the cartridge reduces coarse particles, such as dirt & sediment Carbonate hardness adjustment – The ion-selective Claris filter media reduces the levels of carbonate hardness while retaining essential minerals Fine filtration – Behind the carbonate hardness adjustment process, a fine filter compresses the filter bed and retains fine particles from the water High efficiency activated carbon absorption media -removes contaminants and chlorine off tastes & odors  Final particle membrane – removes particles down to 5 micron (5 µm) for highest equipment protection The Claris system combines ion exchange, filtration and the ability to blend in one compact system.  The Duoblend system allows constant and precise adjustment to produce the right amount of minerals in the water to protect the steamer. • Easy and flexible installation, horizontally or vertically • 4 sizes to accommodate many different applications • Compact design requires minimum space • Quick change head/cartridge design with AUTO SHUT-OFF For more information on which Claris System would best fit your water filtration needs, please call us at 800-942-7873 or click the link below to ask a question. Perfect Crema!

Great Espresso starts with great water. The first thing an operator should do is test their water to find out the hardness. Water hardness is measured in grains per gallon, a grain is (64.8 milligrams) of calcium carbonate dissolved in 1 US gallon of water (3.785412 L). Espresso is 85-96% water and that water is extremely important to drawing out the flavor of those expensive coffee beans.

But what determines the taste of a great tasting espresso? Crema! Crema is the flavorful, aromatic, reddish-brown froth made when air bubbles combine with fine-ground coffee’s soluble oils. The strong presence of crema in an espresso shot indicates a quality, well-ground coffee and a skilled barista (professional coffee maker). Crema, compared to drip coffee, helps give espresso a fuller flavor and longer aftertaste. The key to creating that perfect crema is tailoring the hardness of the water and Pentair/Everpure working directly with Specialty Coffee Operators and Espresso Equipment Manufactures developed working solutions to take care of espresso water regardless of the number of grains of hardness at an operators location.

The ESO7, 9607-25 (ESO stands for Espresso, the 7 just means the size of the filter cartridge) is a three-in-one system providing filtration, scale prevention and buffering/softening of  the water. The water retains enough mineral to bring out the espresso flavors. The ESO7 will take care of up to 5,300 grains of hardness or at 8 grains of hardness will generate 511 gallons of espresso before it will need to be changed. Need more capacity than that and more ability to work with the hardness of the water you want for your espresso?

The Claris XXL, 4339-14, unit will give you the same great 3 in 1 filter but also give you the ability to generate 2,910 gallons of espresso, (at 10 grains of hardness) but also has an adjustable DUOBLEND™ bypass valve that allows for a more precise adjustment of carbonate hardness. Either system is quick to install, easy to handle and fast to service. Not sure how hard your water is? Confused about what system would help “perfect” your crema? We can help! Lovin' Your Combi-Oven

One of the functions of a Combi-oven is its steam feature. Steam equipment is very susceptible to scale and corrosion problems. The last thing you want is your combi-oven breaking down, leaving you scrambling to figure out how you’re going to prepare your food and then trying to find a technician to fix the combi-oven, and you KNOW how expensive that can be! So it’s time to show your combi-oven some LOVE! Take careful consideration of its water quality by understanding a few basic characteristics about your water:

  • Chlorine/Chloramines
  • Hardness (scale)
  • Chlorides

Chlorine and Chloramines are disinfectants that protect us from water-borne disease and other health risks, but they also promote corrosion in cooking equipment. The scale forming compounds of calcium and magnesium carbonate are found in most water supplies. The physics of generating steam results in the precipitation of these dissolved minerals which forms hard scale in boilers, valves and fittings, and on elements, cabinet walls and glass. Chlorides are common, active ions of dissolved solids in water that can cause pitting and crevice corrosion. At high temperatures chlorides are particularly corrosive to stainless steel.  Chlorides can only be removed with a system that utilizes reverse osmosis.

With these facts in mind, you want to make sure you pick the right water filtration system for your combi-oven. Here are a few options:

The New Grill

As most of our followers know, we here at Filter Pure usually throw a monthly event bringing our little family together with a good meal. Everyone brings a dish and lately we’ve been using a small grill to cook up some delicious chicken wings, mouth watering burgers and of course, brauts! The grill we were using was small and a tad dated, so Rusty bought us a NEW GRILL!!! Order up!!! Now grilling out the best food in town…FILTER PURE!! We are all so excited about the new grill! Craig Mastny did a great job of setting it up out front. Below are some pictures documenting Craig’s hard work! Things you need: a hole, bag of rocks, bag of cement, the grill, a level and water! Simple, right?! Craig lines up the pole just right! Then he pours in the cement with the bag of rocks. Time to add water! Get-the-hose add-water

Now let the water soak and sit!

Once cement is dry, add the grill! We gave the honor to our Grill Master, Vince Paglino! Now get that grill going! I’m hungry!! hot-coals the-grill

We Support Our U.S. VETS

For many years, Filter Pure has supported U.S. VETS in their efforts to provide comprehensive services to homeless and at-risk veterans.  With 11 facilities in six states and the District of Columbia, U.S.VETS provides vital services such as case management, employment assistance, job placement, counseling, as well as drug- and alcohol-free housing to over 2,000 veterans each day. Filter Pure, in their support, is donating an Everpure Insurice Twin-i2000 system. This NSF certified system will help the U.S. VETS reduce ice machine problems caused by scale build-up and also reduce chlorine taste and odor and other offensive contaminants in their water. With its new and improved Micro-Pure II media and precoat submicron technology it can reduce dirt particles as small as 1/2 micron in size, while handling up to 18,000 gallons of water. Filter Pure is happy to provide the U.S. VETS with great tasting, filtered water. It is our commitment to ensure every glass you drink is sparkling clear. With all the hard work and sacrifice these Veterans, and those supporting them, have done for our country, a clean, pure glass of water is the least we can do.

Home Brewing the best beer!

We here at Filter Pure have a lot of customers that come in asking us questions like, “What kind of water should I use to brew beer?” There’s a saying, “If you don’t drink from your tap water, don’t brew beer with it.”

A lot of different styles of beer around the world were created based on the type of water in that area. For instance, people who want to make English style stouts usually put chips and salt into their water. You can even doctor your water to match different locations around the world by adjusting the temperature of the water. But first, before adding salts and adjusting the temperature, you want to make sure your water is filtered.

Whether your brewery looks like this…

…or this

…or even this…

…the water you use should be well filtered for quality taste!

There are many ways you can filter your water; we recommend using Costguard’s 10″ housing unit, the CGS-10 (EV9100-10) made by EVERPURE. This system is simple and inexpensive. The CGS-10 is made up of a 10″ low profile Slim Line single bowl housing that is manufactured of durable polypropylene and has excellent chemical resistance. It includes a water pressure gauge which is equipped with a pressure relief button to relieve water pressure during cartridge changes.

It also includes wall mounting bracket and hardware for fast and easy installation. This system is shipped fully assembled. All you have to do is choose the appropriate cartridge for your needs. A CG53-10 (EV9108-53) is highly recommended because of its .5 micron rating, and its carbon effectively reduces unwanted tastes, odor and chlorine. But if you have any type of softening resin already in your water, then use a higher micron rating, such as the CG5-10 (EV910815). Its specifications are the same as the CG53-10 except its micron rating is 5.

Water filtration and all the steps involved can seem confusing. You’ll find yourself scratching your head, not even knowing where to begin. Well, we’re here to help make it simple for you.

Your home brewed beer has the potential to taste EXACTLY the way you want it to. And the first step to getting it there is making sure you have the right water filtration.

We Honor Levi Mercer!

Today, we honor Levi Mercer, National Guard Soldier, for his accomplishments. At 17 years old, he joined the National Guard and was soon deployed to Kuwait where he proudly served his country. He now attends USF, studying in their engineering department, and works for Southland Construction (who is currently doing our renovations). Last night, Levi was honored at the Tampa Bay Storm game. Here’s a video of his recognition. Filter Pure has serviced the water filtration needs of the military for many years. We are proud supporters of our troops and thank Levi for all his hard work – in Kuwait, at home, and especially in our building. Thank you, Levi, for all you’ve done! Below are some pictures of Levi.

Ty Pennington Won't Call Us Back, But Renovations Go On!

It’s extreme makeover time: Filter Pure edition…or should I say Filter Pure additions. After 13 years of being in this location, Filter Pure Systems (FPS) is finally undergoing some new and exciting renovations!! Unlike many others in their industry, FPS has grown considerably in the years since the recession started. FPS started out with one outside sales manager and three inside customer service reps. But now, after thirty years of hard work and determination from Rusty Lowe, Filter Pure is made up of three outside sales managers, five insides sales reps, a remarkably accurate accounting department, a musically talented warehouse crew, and not to forget, Jade, Rusty’s dog. All these new additions have resulted in the need for more space to conduct business. With the desire to grow and expand FPS in the future, Rusty decided it was time to renovate. Everyone is excited to see the new changes. The customer service department made some interesting requests:

  • Personal office for everyone with window view
  • Individual bathrooms
  • Office chairs that massage
  • Mini fridges under the desk
  • Maybe a microwave
  • Pool table in the warehouse
  • Maybe a pool outback
  • A slide leading to the parking lot

I believe some of these things are being considered…although I did find the list of these suggestions in the trash. The renovations entail the expansion of our main floor which will allow more room for growth, the addition of offices, and a conference room! “We value the communication with our customers,” states April Lancaster, Customer Service Supervisor, “with the new conference room, we will be able to Skype with our international clients better serving them with all their filtration needs.” We will also be getting new carpet and re-painting the walls. We were thinking blue! Get it – water…blue? But with everyone having a difference of opinion on color choices for the walls and flooring, this decision may take a while! We’ve taken pictures throughout the renovation process and wanted to share it with everyone so you can see how Filter Pure is always expanding. img_0240 img_0303 img_02431 img_0300 img_0299 img_0301 img_02411 img_0302
