The New Claris Ultra!

We are proud to introduce the next step in the Claris filtration line. The Claris Ultra is the world’s first filter cartridge to combine mineral reduction and corrosion protection within one compact unit. As a result, Claris Ultra delivers the very best quality water for hot drinks and ice machines while also preventing scale formation in machines and inhibiting corrosion of materials across the widest range of water hardness levels. This breakthrough is achieved by using new patent pending water conditioning technology; in effect a highly engineered water conditioning system that uses the synergetic effect of mineral adaptation and mineral stabilization, all within one compact filter package. The result is optimum water mineral extraction, ie retaining the necessary minerals for a pleasant flavor and proper extraction of the coffee bean and grind, while minimizing the minerals that lead to limescale. Similarly, in ice production, Claris Ultra eliminates those minerals that cause cloudy and soft ice and lead to scaled ice machines, low energy efficiency and scale amplified bio-film formation. Everpure’s Claris Ultra filter range has successfully addressed the challenge of finding the right balance between protecting an operation’s investment and capturing the desired quality of brewed coffee, espresso, other hot drinks and ice cubes. The Claris Ultra filters use the same head as the existing Claris cartridge range.

Claris Ultra Filter Cartridges features

  • First cartridge to effectively combine lime scale and corrosion protection
  • More capacity / lower costs for hot drinks and ice cube machines
  • Inhibits metal migration from machine parts
  • Safeguarding /enhancing energy efficiency of food service equipment
  • Small foot print and low space requirement
  • Cartridge family with widest capacity range (one head fits all)

New ES Series Stainless Steel Filter Bag Housing at IPPE2015

Filter Pure introduces the new ES Series Stainless Steel Filter Bag Housing at IPPE2015!

Filter Pure located in Hall A in booth A3232 for this year’s International Production & Processing Expo will be displaying the new Pentair Industrial ES Series liquid filter bag housing. With applications that include water remediation and feed water treatment the E Series Single Liquid Bag Housings effectively remove dirt, pipe scale, and other substances from process liquids. Constructed from 304 or 316 stainless steel these housings offer outstanding durability and corrosion resistance across a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications. Quality workmanship and design assure clean effluent and consistent, reliable performance. Unfiltered liquid enters the housing above the filter bag or strainer basket, fills the interior of the housing and continues through the bag or strainer basket. Solids are trapped inside the filter bag or strainer and are easily removed when the housing is serviced. The simple to operate band clamp closure makes bag change-outs quick and easy. Vince Paglino, Industrial Filtration Specialist at Filter Pure said in regards to the opening of this years 2015 IPPE, “We are very excited to be a part of such a large international trade show representing the very latest in Industrial and Food Service water treatment technologies.”  This year’s 2015 IPPE is bringing together more than 1,100 exhibitors and over 25,000 attendees in the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from January 27 – 29, 2015. We look forward to seeing you there!

NEW 2SR-BW SCALE INHIBITOR CARTRIDGE

Our foodservice customers are starting to see an increase in their daily volume of water usage. The volume of water for consumer demand is growing rapidly each year. Concerns for store operators:

  • How to keep the high volume food service equipment running at peak optimizing performance
  • How to keep the lime-scale build up down
  • How to filter the increased volume of water

Everpure manufactured filtration equipment for those concerns. They have developed systems that not only require less maintenance, making the components last longer, but also work to improve high volume flow rates that keep up with the customer demand. The new Everpure SC (EV943742) is Pentair’s new high flow filtration platform unit designed for high volume foodservice operators. There is also the Endurance High Flow System (EV943732). This system can meet your peak water demands today and tomorrow, up to 200,000 gallon capacity and no electricity or drain required. We recommend the 2SR-BW as a conditioning cartridge for either system or as a standalone cartridge. This would be attached to the system for lime-scale prevention. This cartridge has been developed because of the changing times in the foodservice industry. It contains a special media which helps to reduce the lime-scaling tendency of hard water minerals that are found in many water supplies. The scale inhibitor cartridge makeup is effective for up to 15 grains of hardness per gallon of water. Just to give you an idea of its efficiency it has the equivalent of up to 20 of the SS-10 Scale-stick inserts. There are two different kits that can be purchased or you can just get the cartridge alone (EV962714). The first one is the General Purpose Kit (EV979875) which can be used with any Everpure High Flow, High Output Filtration System. This kit would be mounted separate from the system. It is used to reduce scale in ice machines and coffee brewers. The second kit is the Endurance Feeder Kit (EV979870) – which is to be used with the Everpure Endurance High Flow System. This kit is mounted directly to the Endurance System. For more information on how we can help you with your high volume needs or on this cartridge or others like it please call us at 800-942-7873.

Water Boost Systems

One complaint that we hear our beverage customers is that there is a lack of water pressure and pulsation at the dispenser valves. What is that? When you go get a soda and the drink spits out, that is the pulsation. The cause can be the brix and syrup ratio. Are you having problems likes this? Is the flow low, fluctuating or no water pressure to your valves or faucets? Filter Pure can help with the Shurflo Water Boost Systems. The systems are offered in different sizes based on your needs. The systems are rated at 60 PSI, 115 VAC to 90 PSI, 230 VAC. The max working pressure is 117 PSI. How does the Water Boost System work? The system has a small pressurized reservoir tank that helps to regulate a steady stream of water to eliminate fluctuating water pressure to the carbonated and non-carbonated soda valves. You install the boost system before the filtration system. As the water is pulled into the tank and begins to fill. The tank then begins to increase its pressure to push the water to your filtration system. It is very important to maintain consistent water pressure and flow through your filtering process. It maximizes the filter life on the filtration system. The tank is a 2 gallon, stainless steel tank with a butyl rubber bladder. The system is small (13″ x 13″ x 10″) and light weight (13 lbs) for under the counter placement or it can even be mounted on the wall. Click on system setup diagram for more examples of systems and its functions or call us for more information at 800-942-7873.

Filters, We Don’t Need No Stinking Filters

Dirt and sediment in the water can lead to an undesirable taste in the ice produced by your ice machine.  Hard and unfiltered water have a multitude of minerals that can positively and negatively influence the taste of ice. These additional minerals also build up in your ice machine leading to scale and bacterial growth, and also create unsanitary conditions.
An ice machine with scale build up has to use additional energy and run longer periods to produce the ice that it made prior. As the production efficiency decreases, an increase in the occurrence of failure occurs. A failed compressor is a timely and costly repair that takes the machine offline, as well as taking time away from the person maintaining the equipment. The increase in the electric bill and then the repair adds up to a large cost associated with not using filtration on your ice machine. It is true that an ice machine does not need a water filter to do its job. It will still make ice and can have a great taste depending on the water source. If, however, you don’t have great water but still want to enjoy crystal clear ice and a machine that won’t be out for repairs, the proper filtration can solve that problem. The best filter that money can buy is the Everpure i2000 (EV9612-22). It offers submicron level filtration to capture viruses and bacteria that may be in your water. The carbon helps to clear up any off taste and leave you with great tasting water to make your ice. The addition of scale inhibitor provides the necessary protection against scale buildup without adversely affecting taste. If you are noticing cloudy ice or a bad smell coming from your ice, try utilizing a water filter into the maintenance of your machine and see the benefits. What is a 7SO Softening Cartridge?

This pretty cool piece of equipment is used for food service and commercial applications. It can give you delicious specialty coffee, wonderfully strong espresso or refreshing, crisp ice tea. This cartridge reduces minerals like calcium and magnesium which cause hard water. It’s like having a mini water softener under your sink. This is ideal for hard water at a flow rate as high as 1/2 gallon per minute. The ion exchange technology is a carbon and resin blend. The cartridge has a psi range of 10-125, as well as, a temperature range of 35 to 100 degrees. The 2,000 grain capacity is ideal for high mineral content and low volume application. What is the proper way to use the 7SO (EV9607-04)? Usually it is a 2 stage setup. The first stage would be a MC2 (EV9612-56) filter. This reduces the chlorine, sediment, taste and odor. The precoat sub-micron technology reduces the dirt and particles as small as 1/2 micron. The 2nd stage is the 7SO, which reduces the hardness. Best operating procedure is to change the cartridge every 6 months just like most other filters. To determine cartridge life, divide total capacity of cartridge by the hardness in grains per gallon (gpg). So for example, 2,000 grains for the 7SO divided by 15 grains of hardness, you would exhaust this cartridge after running approximately 133 gallons of water through it. You can also change when hardness of treated water increases to more than 3 grains per gallon. Do not exceed recommended flow rate which is 0.5 gallons per minute. Don’t forget to flush the cartridge when you install it or change one out. You do this by running water through it for five minutes at full flow. This should be done no matter what filters you are using. The other great thing about this cartridge is that it fits all existing Everpure heads. No electrical connection is required. So if you have hard water in your foodservice location and want great tasting espresso we would recommend the 7SO. For more information on how we can help you on this system or others like it please call us at 800-942-7873.

McDonald's Battles to be Breakfast Champs

McDonald’s really wants you to drink its coffee! The fast-food giant is battling against Starbucks, Taco Bell and Dunkin’ Donuts to capture a greater share of the breakfast market.  But can the burger chain reinvent the wheel when it comes to coffee? And can the public embrace coffee from a place that serves McNuggets?

As the breakfast wars wage on, McDonald’s has introduced a slew of new coffee products- from specialty spiced beverages and bagged beans. But with many of their flavored beverages coming in over 400 calories, the coffee offerings are about as healthy as a Big Mac.

Here are five ways McDonald’s is ramping up their coffee game:

  • 1. Free coffee, again.

In April of this year, McDonald’s offered free cups of coffee during breakfast hours for two weeks. Now that it’s fall, the chain is renewing their complimentary coffee offer, which is from Sept. 16-29.

  • 2. McCafe to hit grocery store shelves.

Like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s has decided to expand its coffee offerings to the home brewer. Next year, fans of McCafe will be able to buy the burger chain’s signature roasts in grocery stores. According to the LA Times, McDonald’s will offering several roasts including breakfast blend, decaf, and French in 12-ounce bags and ready-to-brew pods.
  • 3. Jumping on the Pumpkin Spice bandwagon.

Pumpkin spice flavor is everywhere. But McDonald’s only began offering the fall favorite to it’s menu last year. But apparently, it won’t be available at every location so Starbucks will likely stay on top of the #PSL battle.

  • 4. Expanding pastry offerings.

What makes good coffee even better? How about something sweet on the side. Last year, Starbucks acquired La Boulange bakery in an effort to boost premium snacks and pastries. This year, McDonald’s began testing mini bundt cakes in select Florida markets. The little cakes come in three varieties: classic cinnamon coffee cake, lemon and double chocolate.
  • 5. Amped up fruity drinks.

Fresh, flavorful…and healthy? McDonald’s has tried to capture the non-coffee cafe crowd with a range of fruit smoothies and fruit iced teas.  This is similar to Starbucks Shaken line.

So with McDonald’s, along with several other fast food chains, battling to be first in the breakfast market, the first concern is usually the water quality. Remember, 98% of most breakfast drinks (teas and coffees) are water. So if you’re looking to perfect you coffee and lattes, give us a call. We know exactly where to start. 800-942-7873
