Are you drinking enough water?

Approximately 70% of the human body is water and none of the essential physical functions, such as breathing, digestion, or muscle movement could take place without water and more than likely you are not drinking enough of it.

What are the FACTS about not drinking enough water?

1.)   Not enough water or dehydration can cause a crisis in the brain, which requires more energy than any other organ. Low water levels trigger the brain to signal the nervous system to send out a request for more insulin from the pancreas, which in turn causes the release of more glucose. The brain needs this glucose to function, but there can be an excess amount created which can cause a diabetic situation. 2.)   Water is one of the major sources of energy for our cells. Energy is made when glucose is converted to adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is held in reserve until it is needed. These two molecules need water in order for the stored energy to be released in a process called hydrolysis. The ATP by itself contains 600 units of energy, but when combined with water it can increase to over 6,000 units, to ten times the original amount. Feeling tired or fatigued, you may need more water. 3.)   Lack of water can even cause an increase in cholesterol. Low cellular water levels impede the entry of nutrients and the removal of waste from our cells. To compensate for the lack of water our liver sends cholesterol to the cells to fill the space where water was supposed to be, in order to allow the cell to function. This can cause an excess of cholesterol in the blood stream leading to plaque. 4.)   For every 10 ounces of a caffeinated drink that you consume you can lose up to 12 ounces of water due to caffeine’s impact on your biochemistry. This includes coffee, tea, soda and energy drinks. 5.)   Based upon several studies and in office evaluations by Doctors, it has been determined that low levels of water can lead to a wide range of mental challenges including mental fatigue, depression and even more serious issues including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Low levels can be as small as 1 to 2 percent less than the brains optimal needs. 6.)   Other organs depend on water just as much as the brain does and low levels can cause chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke and heart disease. Here are the percentages of water that comprise some of our major organs; Brains 75%   Spleen 76%   Liver 72%   Lungs 80%   Kidneys 83% Without sufficient water (8-10 glasses per day, 1 glass = 8 ounces) our bodies are more vulnerable to all of the above mentioned diseases and more including cancer. No other fluids are a good substitute for water and it should be good clean spring water that has been tested for purity. Try a few more glasses of water every day and see how much more energy you have. office-drinking-water For premium quality drinking water for bottleless coolers and drinking fountains in your office Filter Pure recommends the Pentair/Everpure OW, (Office Water) Family of water filters. NEW 2SR-BW SCALE INHIBITOR CARTRIDGE

Our foodservice customers are starting to see an increase in their daily volume of water usage. The volume of water for consumer demand is growing rapidly each year. Concerns for store operators:

  • How to keep the high volume food service equipment running at peak optimizing performance
  • How to keep the lime-scale build up down
  • How to filter the increased volume of water

Everpure manufactured filtration equipment for those concerns. They have developed systems that not only require less maintenance, making the components last longer, but also work to improve high volume flow rates that keep up with the customer demand. The new Everpure SC (EV943742) is Pentair’s new high flow filtration platform unit designed for high volume foodservice operators. There is also the Endurance High Flow System (EV943732). This system can meet your peak water demands today and tomorrow, up to 200,000 gallon capacity and no electricity or drain required. We recommend the 2SR-BW as a conditioning cartridge for either system or as a standalone cartridge. This would be attached to the system for lime-scale prevention. This cartridge has been developed because of the changing times in the foodservice industry. It contains a special media which helps to reduce the lime-scaling tendency of hard water minerals that are found in many water supplies. The scale inhibitor cartridge makeup is effective for up to 15 grains of hardness per gallon of water. Just to give you an idea of its efficiency it has the equivalent of up to 20 of the SS-10 Scale-stick inserts. There are two different kits that can be purchased or you can just get the cartridge alone (EV962714). The first one is the General Purpose Kit (EV979875) which can be used with any Everpure High Flow, High Output Filtration System. This kit would be mounted separate from the system. It is used to reduce scale in ice machines and coffee brewers. The second kit is the Endurance Feeder Kit (EV979870) – which is to be used with the Everpure Endurance High Flow System. This kit is mounted directly to the Endurance System. For more information on how we can help you with your high volume needs or on this cartridge or others like it please call us at 800-942-7873.

Water Boost Systems

One complaint that we hear our beverage customers is that there is a lack of water pressure and pulsation at the dispenser valves. What is that? When you go get a soda and the drink spits out, that is the pulsation. The cause can be the brix and syrup ratio. Are you having problems likes this? Is the flow low, fluctuating or no water pressure to your valves or faucets? Filter Pure can help with the Shurflo Water Boost Systems. The systems are offered in different sizes based on your needs. The systems are rated at 60 PSI, 115 VAC to 90 PSI, 230 VAC. The max working pressure is 117 PSI. How does the Water Boost System work? The system has a small pressurized reservoir tank that helps to regulate a steady stream of water to eliminate fluctuating water pressure to the carbonated and non-carbonated soda valves. You install the boost system before the filtration system. As the water is pulled into the tank and begins to fill. The tank then begins to increase its pressure to push the water to your filtration system. It is very important to maintain consistent water pressure and flow through your filtering process. It maximizes the filter life on the filtration system. The tank is a 2 gallon, stainless steel tank with a butyl rubber bladder. The system is small (13″ x 13″ x 10″) and light weight (13 lbs) for under the counter placement or it can even be mounted on the wall. Click on system setup diagram for more examples of systems and its functions or call us for more information at 800-942-7873.

Ebola Home Water Treatment

The Ebola virus cannot spread through the water supply, according to information released by the Water Research Foundation. The internationally recognized leader in water research has provided the following information in response to inquiries about Ebola that some water utilities are receiving: Ebola is not a foodborne, waterborne or airborne illness. It is transmitted to humans from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission. Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, such as blood, vomit and feces. The Ebola virus cannot survive long in water because it can only replicate within host cells — from a human or an animal. Because of Ebola’s fragility when separated from its host, bodily fluids flushed by an infected person would not contaminate the water supply.

Researchers believe Ebola survives in water for only a matter of minutes because water does not provide the same environment as bodily fluids, which have higher salt concentrations. Once in water, the virus will take in water, causing the cells to swell and burst — killing the virus.

But if you are still concerned about the Ebola virus or any other harmful bacteria or virus entering your home through the water supply you may want to consider a Whole house UV disinfection system.

 Does UV light kill Ebola?

UV Disinfection has been found to be effective against the Ebola Virus, and many other harmful bacteria and viruses.   UV Disinfection is a method that uses ultraviolet (UV) light at sufficiently short wavelength to kill microorganisms. It is also referred to as Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI).  It is used in many applications, such as water and air purification.  UV Disinfection utilises short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation (UV-C), which has a wavelength in the range of 100nm to 280nm.   UV-C is harmful to microorganisms and is effective in destroying the nucleic acids in these organisms so that their DNA is disrupted.  Studies have confirmed that UV-C radiation is effective in deactivating Ebola virus. One extremely inexpensive whole house UV system is the PURA® Product’s UV20 Series™ designed to provide disinfected water at a flow rate of 8 – 10 gallons per minute. This system is ideal for whole house water treatment. In addition to disinfection, the double and triple models provide filtration for the removal of sediment and chemical contaminants. This ultraviolet water treatment system makes a perfect companion to water softeners, distillers, reverse osmosis and ozone systems. The UV20 Series™ has proven to be PURA® Product’s most popular product line and has created an industry standard in whole-house disinfection.

Filters, We Don’t Need No Stinking Filters

Dirt and sediment in the water can lead to an undesirable taste in the ice produced by your ice machine.  Hard and unfiltered water have a multitude of minerals that can positively and negatively influence the taste of ice. These additional minerals also build up in your ice machine leading to scale and bacterial growth, and also create unsanitary conditions.
An ice machine with scale build up has to use additional energy and run longer periods to produce the ice that it made prior. As the production efficiency decreases, an increase in the occurrence of failure occurs. A failed compressor is a timely and costly repair that takes the machine offline, as well as taking time away from the person maintaining the equipment. The increase in the electric bill and then the repair adds up to a large cost associated with not using filtration on your ice machine. It is true that an ice machine does not need a water filter to do its job. It will still make ice and can have a great taste depending on the water source. If, however, you don’t have great water but still want to enjoy crystal clear ice and a machine that won’t be out for repairs, the proper filtration can solve that problem. The best filter that money can buy is the Everpure i2000 (EV9612-22). It offers submicron level filtration to capture viruses and bacteria that may be in your water. The carbon helps to clear up any off taste and leave you with great tasting water to make your ice. The addition of scale inhibitor provides the necessary protection against scale buildup without adversely affecting taste. If you are noticing cloudy ice or a bad smell coming from your ice, try utilizing a water filter into the maintenance of your machine and see the benefits. Corrosion Problem?

It’s common for high performance filter housing components to experience some form of corrosion regardless of what type of metal is being used. Corrosion resistant coatings can increase the lifespan of a part, as well as reduce maintenance and replacement costs. In order to select the appropriate metals to extend the life of the housing, it’s important to identify what kind of corrosion a part is prone to. Based on how a part is used and what conditions it’s exposed to, the kind of corrosion that develops may differ.

General corrosion occurs as a result of rust. When metal, specifically steel, is exposed to water, the surface is oxidized and a thin layer of rust appears. In order to prevent oxidation, a preventative coating must interfere with the reaction. As an alternative to using metals that must be protected by layers of coatings, engineers often have an option to use different metal alloys that are selected for having a greater resistance to corrosion caused by its surroundings. As the saying goes “you get what you pay for,” so better corrosion resistance usually comes at a higher materials and manufacturing cost. Engineers must take into account that the corrosion resistance of any alloy depends on both the medium and the working conditions. Alloys with good resistance in one environment may have poor resistance in another, and their resistance is also likely to vary according to differences in exposure conditions, such as temperature, stress from high pressure, friction or vibration. Our filtration specialists at Filter Pure take in to consideration every working aspect of the water or liquid filtration application that they face. We have at our disposal the answers to the many methods for preventing or reducing corrosion. Most of the solution methods are orientated in one way or another toward slowing, reducing or eliminating the rate of corrosion on the metal filtration housings and parts. To find out more on how to solve your filtration corrosion problem, contact us at 800-942-7873 or click below to ask us a question.
